How we choose
Three things move the order. First, fit: how close a bottle’s accords are to what they wear or like, and how many listed notes they share. Second, the kind of bottle you choose: with “Any” we prefer a designer or niche bottle for the first pick and use a value house only when nothing else is close. Third, a small lift for a bottle that fans compare with one they wear. A bottle must be a close fit to be picked at all. We use a brand’s list price only to order the step up, which ranks above the closest pick and comes from another house when it can; we never show a price. We use no ratings or votes, and we do not say a bottle is well liked or that owners keep it. Smell is personal, so treat every pick as a starting point. Some bottles have no close fan comparison in our data, so the third pick can be missing.
